The Northwestern Board of Education (BOE) held a regular meeting in the Northwestern Elementary School’s library at 6:00 pm on July 21. District Superintendent Jesse Steiner and District Treasurer, Dave Bollheimer, were also present. BOE president, Pamela Marton, was absent, Donna Myers presided.
Architects from Garmann/Miller & Associates Architects & Engineers presented plans they created for a new Athletic Complex that may be built soon on campus near the athletic fields and stadium.
Garmann/Miller’s plans include several locker rooms with showers, storage space, a large all-purpose room for practices, batting cages, a weight room, a hallway that can double as an inside track, a concession stand, and a small classroom space that can also be used as a community room.
BOE members requested additional renderings of the plans and discussed how the athletic complex would be funded if the plans moved forward. The project would be paid for with private donations from a capital campaign and money left over from the recent building project that created the new schools.
In other business, Steiner announced the district recently learned that positions previously filled by volunteers who received a small compensation would now have to be paid positions per the Federal government. The positions include: Ticket Seller, Ticket Taker, Clock Operator, and Announcer. People filling those positions may be hired at $8.50 an hour, or volunteer without any compensation.
The BOE voted to approve the purchase of a new band tower from Educational Steel Products for $24,950. Approval was also given to advertise and receive bids for the purchase of a new school bus in cooperation with the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council.
Changes to the current vision insurance that includes a provision for high deductible health insurance was also approved.
