Four community members have been appointed to the newly-formed Finance Committee of the Tecumseh Local School District Board of Education, which will hold its first meeting Jan. 13.

“The Board of Education is dedicated to engaging the community in important conversations about our finances and the formation of this committee is our latest step to enhance that commitment,” said Board member Kurt Lewis. “The initial meetings of the committee will focus on providing the community representatives with information and context about the district’s fiscal operations, so that those community members can share their knowledge with others in the community and give us input to help guide the Board in the important decisions we make about the future of our schools.”

The committee is comprised of Board Member Kurt Lewis, Superintendent Norm Glismann, Treasurer Debra Schock, and four community members. The purpose of the committee is to provide accurate and comprehensive financial information to representatives of the community who can share that information with others and provide input from the community perspective.

The community members, who were selected from their submitted applications for the one-year appointment to the committee, are:

  • Andy Grimm Editor of the New Carlisle News
  • Sam George a long-time community member who regularly attends board meetings
  • Matt Triplett a Tecumseh graduate and parent
  • Julia Ward a Tecumseh parent and a volunteer with the Wee Arrows

The committee will begin by discussing revenue sources such as property taxes, state funds, and millage calculations and their impact during the first meeting; the next three meetings will cover expenditures including types of expenses, collective bargaining, and their breakdown, and types of funds (general, permanent improvement, etc.).

The first meeting of the finance committee will begin at 6 p.m. on January 13 in the Superintendent’s Office at the Board of Education, 9760 W. National Road, New Carlisle.
