Two people were injured in a Monday afternoon crash that knocked out power to the neighborhood.

The accident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. in the 7200 block of New Carlisle Pike.

According to initial reports, a vehicle westbound on New Carlisle Pike swerved to miss an animal in the road, took out the pole and a fence, then came to rest in a yard.

The extent of the power outage is unknown. Power crews were due to arrive around 7:00 p.m.

Deputy Jolene Irons was at the intersection of New Carlisle Pike and North Hampton Road on her way to another call. “It sounded more like a gunshot,” she said. “I looked up and saw the power lines shaking.

The passenger in the vehicle is reported to have had back surgery recently. Both occupants were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Patrol.
