A fire of undetermined origin caused about $20,000 worth of damage to a home in the 4500 block of New Carlisle Pike Saturday evening.

“I don’t know if it was a lightning strike, but it was definitely electrical,” said Lt. Jim Carpenter of the Bethel Twp. Fire Dept.

Neighbors reported seeing lightning strikes “very close” to the home during the storm that evening.

Carpenter said the fire began in the basement and burned a hole in the kitchen floor.

Fire crews from New Carlisle, Pike Township and Springfield Township assisted.
