Lindsey Nartker led the Tecumseh girls’ basketball team with a game high 28 points, as the Arrows knocked off fellow Division One opponent Northmont last week 72-58 to win their seventh game of the season.

“Lately we have been discussing everyone’s roles on the team which has been part of our problem lately,” Tecumseh coach Danielle Thomas said. “We are the same team from last year and we haven’t been playing we well. We have narrows down things that have worked for us, and our goal is to get more kids to score.”

“Lindsey and Danielle (Franklin) have been scoring for us, but they look better when the other girls’ get involved and that has happened lately.”

Tecumseh jumped out to a nice lead in the opening quarter, scoring 25 in the eight minutes. Nartker put up 14 in the opening period, and had 22 at the half.

“The ball movement was really good, and the kids moved well without the ball.”

Franklin also had a nice game from the point guard spot. She can score with anybody at her position, but Thomas said her passing is what she has noticed lately.

“She ended up with five assists, and she can make the girls look better,” Thomas said. “That is what a good point guard will do at any level, and she has done that well lately.”

The third quarter was another big period for Tecumseh, as they scored 26 points to increase their lead even more.

“They tried to press us and we handled it,” Thomas said. “We had several transition baskets.”

Another player who has stepped up her game lately is junior guard Caroline Smith, who started her stretch of impressive games against Oakwood.

“We always knew she could shoot,” Thomas said. “We have been working with her to just be ready. She has started to put the ball on the floor and it has made her better.”

“Her defense has also been great lately. She shut down Courtney Eggleston (Oakwood’s standout guard) to no field goals, and it has continued from that point.”

“We have been playing more man and that has always been our weakness, but it has gotten much better.”

Nartker added 12 rebounds to her numbers, while Thomas scored 10 points. Smith added 11 points with three three’s, Ali Lee scored 14 points with nine boards, and Kelsi Garber scored seven.

“My guards had 15 assists so they are moving the ball around really well,” Thomas said.

* Tecumseh also was victorious at Bellefontaine on Saturday night 84-47, as Franklin score 26, Nartker 22, Smith 13 and Berner 11.

Tecumseh travels to Shawnee on Saturday then they are in the Classic in the Country Monday at 8:00 against Berlin Hiland. Admission to the CITC is $10 for the entire day of basketball. For the complete schedule go to classicinthecountry.org.
