After a 7-1 win against Northwestern toward the end of April, the Tecumseh baseball team stood above .500 at 11-10 after their fourth consecutive victory. Then came a rough stretch that ended last week following a 7-3 loss at Troy in the first round of the OHSAA Division One sectional tournament. The loss was their sixth consecutive defeat, and they saw their season come to a close last week, ending the career of five Arrow seniors.

Tecumseh started out well against the Trojan senior starter Hayden Hotwica as Reid Hale singled to open the game and moved up on a wild pitch. Two outs later, Hunter Hensley reached on an error by the Trojans second baseman which allowed Hale to score and give the Arrows the early 1-0 lead.

Troy responded with two runs of their own in the first inning as Tyler Brandenberg reached on a single to open the bottom of the first against Tecumseh starter Hensley. A wild pitch moved him up and he scored when Kotwica ripped a double tying the game at one. Later a ground out to second by Keiran Williams scored Kotwica to give Troy a 2-1 lead after one inning of play.

The Arrows left two runners on base in the second with scoring, but the Trojans did capitalize on their chance in their second at-bat. Brandon Emery tripled with one out in the inning, then scored when Matt Bigley singled off Hensley to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead. Hensley then responded when he picked off the runner at second to prevent any more damage that inning.

Tecumseh had another chance to score in the third, but again came up short. Blais Hale walked and Hensley singled to set the Arrows up with a runner in scoring position. As Davey Berner struck out, the ball got away from the catcher but he recovered to throw the runner out advancing to third. It was a strange double play but the Arrows still trailed by two.

Troy added a run in the third when Williams hit a sacrifice fly to score Kotwica, and another run in the fourth when Brandenberg walked with two outs, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Kotwica’s single.

Tecumseh left two runners on base in both the fifth and sixth innings, and the Trojans scored twice in their half of the fifth.

The Arrows closed out the scoring in the seventh when Gavin Wasson walked, and Hensley had his third hit of the game. Wasson later scored on a wild pitch and Nick Yeary scored a run with a fielders choice.

Hale, Hensley, Kyle McDonald, Logan Stryker and Evan Maxwell finish up their careers with the Arrows, but the Arrows will be returning some key younger players for next season.
