It was the type of game that the Tecumseh girls’ basketball team needed right now.

With the sectional tournament one month away, the Arrows battled Northmont last week in a game that saw both teams trying to survive this tough non-conference battle, while challenging both teams to scrap for the win.

Coming off of a big win against Bellefontaine, the Arrows used a solid fourth quarter to keep the Thunderbolts off balance, and Tecumseh escaped with a 64-60 win over Northmont.

Both teams battled in the opening quarter which included three ties and five lead changes. Northmont scored five consecutive points to take the lead at 5-4 before the Arrows put together five straight including a layup from Allison Berner to regain the lead at 9-5 with 4:42 left in the opening period.

Both teams put together runs including q 4-0 run to end the quarter from Presley Griffitts in the final minute, giving the Arrows a 16-12 lead.

In the second period, Tecumseh opened the margin over the first three minutes of the second period, as Corinne Thomas scored twice in the paint, and buried a big three with 5:20 left in the half, pushing the Arrows lead out to 25-16 and the Arrows maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the second period until the 1:18 mark, when Salena Roberts hit a three.

Makenzie Pauley scored at the end of the first half giving the Arrows a 31-27 lead at the break.

After the Arrows scored a big three from Thomas to open the third period and a pair of free throws from Berner gave the Arrows a 36-27 lead, the Arrows offense went silent for four minutes, as the T-Bolts came charging back reeling off 10 consecutive points to take a 37-26 lead.

Griffitts answered for Tecumseh and finally broke the drought with a three to give the Arrows the lead again, and Tecumseh went into the fourth period with a slim 40-39 lead.

In the fourth, both offenses woke up and combined for 46 points in eight minutes.

Thomas led the Arrows with a game high 27 points, with Griffitts adding 16 points and six steals for the Arrows. Also in double figures with 10 points was Macy Berner.

Tecumseh is back in action tonight at Shawnee, then travels to Graham on Saturday at 1 p.m.

*The Arrows added to their lead in the CBC on Saturday night, as they knocked off second-place Kenton Ridge for the second time this season 64-58. Tecumseh built an early lead only to see the Cougars claw back into the game and challenge the Arrows in the second half.

Thomas led the Arrows with a game high 27 points, while Griffitts added 20 and Allison Berner scored nine.

Tecumseh is now 7-0 in the CBC and has a two game lead over KR.
