Earlier in the summer, you had the chance to meet Presley Griffitts, half of last year’s freshman “dynamic duo” as part of the Tecumseh basketball program.

The other half of that feared Arrows threat is a player who not only can light up a defense like no other shooter in the Central Buckeye Conference, but her game this summer has blossomed into one of the top players in Ohio in her class.

Corinne Thomas is no stranger to success on the court. In middle school, her Tecumseh teams won the league both her seventh and eighth grade years. They were nearly untouchable at that level. Even last year as a key varsity contributor as a freshman, she has enjoyed an exceptional year.

“Becoming sectional champs, and going to districts for the second time in school history are some of our major highlights I’ve enjoyed so far,” Thomas said. “It was a great season and I enjoyed every minute I had on the court with my team.”

Thomas was introduced to sports at a young age by her parents, and she can remember trying nearly everything.

“I was introduced to sports at a young age by my parents and grew up watching my older brother play,” she said. “I’ve played soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, and even took years of dance. Once I started playing sports I couldn’t stop.”

She continues to love to play, although she has narrowed down her sports. While playing for her mother Danielle who is the head varsity basketball coach at Tecumseh, she also enjoys volleyball.

But basketball is her sport, and playing in college is her ultimate goal. She knows that that she does in the summer will play a huge part in how far she goes in the sport.

“Working on my basketball game really never stops,” she said, as she plays for the Dayton Metro 2019 team loaded with some of the top sophomores in the area. “I travel 3 out of the 4 weeks in July for AAU. July is the biggest exposure month for being seen by college coaches.”

Thomas also takes her training very seriously, always looking to improve her game.

“I just finished up a nine week weight training program with Richard Quisenberry and I do individual skills training sessions as well with Coach Quisenberry year round,” she said. “With my mom being my coach, I can get gym access to work on my shot year round as well. We try to get in at least 500-1,000 shots extra during winter and AAU season. Then during Volleyball we bump this up to 1,000-1,500 extra shots when not in season.”

“Every off season is about adding to your game,” she added. “I am currently working on my strength and being able to get to the rim more efficiently. The two kind of go hand and hand.”

After a run to the districts last season, Thomas has big goals for not only her game, but for the team.

“My individual goals for this season are to improve myself so I can help lead my teammates,” she said. “For the team we want to compete for another conference championship and hopefully make another deep tourney run next season.”

The super sophomore has quite the resume already with her short time with the Arrows, and her ultimate goal is the next level. In just her freshman year, she was named CBC All League 1st Team, All Clark County Team, District 9 North South Team, All Southwest District D1-Honorable Mention, Arrow Award-Team Award, with school records set in: Most 3pt FG’s made in a season (80 made), FG% Game-100% (8/8) vs. Tippecanoe, 3pt FG% Game-100% (6/6) vs. Tippecanoe.

“I have a goal to play college basketball,” she said. “I train for D1, but when the time comes for me to pick a school I’m going to pick the best fit for me regardless of division.”

Thomas was in the Junior National Honor Society in middle school, but a student cannot be in National Honor Society until your junior year of high school which is another goal for her. She was a student helper during my study hall last year, and also helps out in various kids’ camps all summer long for basketball.

Currently, Thomas would like to major in Broadcasting or Business-Accounting.
