When you stand 6-foot-6, it’s not difficult to stand out above your competition. Not only was Ross Warren an improved basketball player who manned the paint for the Tecumseh Arrows, but his long, lean frame also shined on the track, in both sprints along with hurdles.

Warren, a two-sport senior for the Arrows, has taken a strong liking to track, and even wants to pursue the sport at the next level. But the Tecumseh standout fondly remembers his upbringing in youth sports.

“My dad introduced and encouraged me to the game of basketball at the age of five,” Warren said. “I also wanted to run track in middle school to try something new. My dad and my grandfathers were all great athletes and they have influenced my athletic career.”

Track has put Warren on center stage, as he qualified to regionals as a sophomore in the 300 hurdles, and has big goals for the future in the sport.

“My goal is to make it to regionals and also state,” he said. “I’d like to help our team win the CBC track championship next year. I would also like to win the 300 hurdles in the league as well.”

Some of the other honors he has received in track during his Arrows career include being names honorable mention CBC last year, was third in the 4x200, and accumulated 146 points for the team last year in track, participating in the 4x1, 4x2, 4x4, 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles over the course of the season. Warren enjoyed success last year, earning four championships in each of the hurdle events.

In addition to his success on the track, Warren is expected to be one of the forces at the post position in the league this coming season, after starting for the CBC championship basketball team. Warren finished seventh overall in the league last year in blocked shots. But he will be working hard in the next few months to have an elite senior season.

“During the summer as a team, we play in leagues and shootouts for basketball,” Warren said, who also plays in an individual fall league.

“I also work with Mike Mastin on my basketball game over the summer.”

His goals in basketball are similar to track, looking for a great year for his team and individually.

“I want us to win the CBC again, and win the districts,” he said. “For myself, I would like to lead the league in blocks and rebounding.”

His future appears to be in track, and will be deciding on his college based on his academic studies.

“I am considering running track in college,” he said. “I have some interest from Division Three schools for track. I am going to weigh my options, as academics are my priority. I will pursue track in college is the program is a good fit for me and my studies.”

Warren plans to major in business.
