Alec Hall gets the takedown on Josh Kirby of Centerville. Hall won his match 12-8.

Youth was served for the Tecumseh Arrows at the district wrestling meet held last weekend at Fairmont, as the Arrows sent five grapplers into action for an opportunity to qualify for the state meet this weekend in Columbus.

All five of the Arrows wrestlers were either freshmen or sophomores, which will help this program going forward giving the young athletes some much needed experience going forward, despite that none of them finished in the top four to advance to the state meet.

At 126 pounds, Arrows freshman Cyle Wells won his opening match at districts, earning a pin in 4:39 against Drew Saunier of Springboro to advance into the quarterfinals, where the young Arrows wrestler suffered a tough 18-3 technical fall against Jordan Ward of Moeller.

Dropping into the second consolation round, Wells battled Kyle Green of Sycamore down to the wire before losing his second match 7-5, and was eliminated from districts.

Weighing in at 132 for the Arrows was Lucas Rodgers, another Tecumseh freshman who experienced his first trip to districts, and lost his opening match against Zachary Donathan of Mason during a first period pin in 1:29. With the loss, Rodgers fell into the consolation bracket, as he lost his next match to Mitchell Moore of Moeller in 1:34.

Wrestling at 138 for Tecumseh in districts was yet a third freshman Alec Hall, as the newcomer fell by pin in the first round against Jake Meredith of Elder in 3:09. Hall then recovered to gain a big win during the first consolation round, as he edged Josh Kirby of Centerville 12-8 to advance into the second consolation round. Hall was then eliminated 12-7 by Quinzell Foster of Hamilton.

Also losing his opening match at districts was 145-pound sophomore Tommy Rowe, as he lost 20-5 via technical fall to Sam Meddings of Fairfield, dropping Rowe into the consolation round. Rowe then saw his season come to an end by losing via pin in 2:28 to Dylan Urk of Oak Hills.

Finally for the Arrows, 152-pound sophomore Hunter Elam fell in his opening match 19-4 to Wayne’s Jordan Hardrick and was dropped into the consolation round, where he lost his next match to Kamal Adewumi of Mason in 2:49.

*Northwestern and Greenon also had one wrestler each participate in the Division Three district finals last weekend.

At 132 pounds, Jacob Lees won his opening match of the day, defeating Travid Tatum of Preble Shawnee in a 3:29 pin to advance into the quarterfinals, where he lost in a tough battle, 7-5 to Max Neiling of Patrick Henry before heading into the consolation round. Lees then bounced back against Dylan Hammond from Columbus Grove and earned a 4-0 shutout win to advance to the third consolation, where he lost to Joey Caprella of Lima Central Catholic in 1:15.

Trey Blevins of Greenon also lost his opening match of the day at 145, falling 18-2 by tech fall to James Badial-Luna of Bluffton, before recovering to gain a hard-fought 12-7 victory in the consolation bracket against Brandon Strickland of Mount Gilead.

In the second consolation, Blevins lost and was eliminated by Drew Combs of Preble Shawnee in 3:54.
