Heading into the CBC wrestling league championships on Saturday, the eye for most wrestlers was on second place, and for good reason.

Graham pulled off the clean sweep, as they won every single weight class cruising to the CBC title at Northwestern on Saturday. They accumulated 341.5 points to win the team title by nearly 200 points over Bellefontaine who was second.

Tecumseh placed fifth overall with 101.5 points while Northwestern placed sixth (98) and Greenon was tenth with 42.

Northwestern had two CBC runner-up finishers on the day, with Jacob Lees at 132 and Greg Snyder at 285. As for the Arrows, they had Tommy Rowe place second overall at 145.

Lees opened his day with a pin against Hunter Wolf of Indian Lake in 3:09 before heading into the semifinal against Lucas Rogers of Tecumseh, where Lees earned an 8-0 major decision victory. In the finals, Lees lost to Mitch Moore of Graham 18-3.

Snyder also had no trouble heading into the finals, as he opened the day with a bye in the quarterfinals, then earned a 13-2 major decision against Braden Jacobs of Bellefontaine setting up his championship match against Khrizdon Van Hoose of Graham. Snyder put together the most competitive championship match of the day, as he lost to the Graham wrestler 4-2.

Rowe also started his day out with a bye for the Arrows to advance into the semi’s, where he cruised past Damion Williams of Urbana 17-4 to advance into the finals. There, he lost to Graham’s Joey Sanchez 16-3.

Several area wrestlers earned a CBC third-place finish, as three wrestlers from Northwestern, two from Tecumseh and one from Greenon accomplished that feat.

Northwestern saw Andrew Reisinger at 160 open the day with a bye into the semi’s, where he lost to Connor Dixon of Indian Lake to drop into the consolation semis. Reisinger then defeated Luis Rameriez of Urbana 7-3 to advance into the third-place match where he defeated Phil Francis of Bellefontaine in 2:49.

Also for the Warriors, Brendan Hartsell at 170 earned a bye into semis where he lost to CJ Cook of Bellefontaine in 2:27, dropping into the consolation round where he defeated Kole Gravos of Greenon to advance into the third-place match. There he defeated Brock LeVan of Ben Logan in 4:50.

Tecumseh saw two wrestlers bring home a third-place win; Cyle Wells at 126 and Lucas Rodgers at 132.

Wells opened the day with a pin against Dylan Christman of Bellefontaine in 2:38 before falling 17-2 against Jeffrey Thomas of Graham. Wells then defeated Jake Griffin of Shawnee in 3:41, that set up a third place match against Gavyn Gwim of Urbana, where Wells earned a hard-fought 14-9 victory.

Rodgers also won his opener against Conner McCune of Shawnee 7-1 before losing his match to Lees to drop into the consos where he defeated Steele Boysel of Ben Logan 10-5. In the third-place match, Rodgers earned an 8-3 win over Austin Baker of Bellefontaine.

Trey Blevins also opened the tournament with a win, as the Greenon wrestler defeated Jacob Bills of Northwestern 8-4, before falling to JD Stickley of Graham in 51 seconds. Blevins bounced back in the consolation semis with a win over Joel Abbott of Ben Logan in 4:48 before winning his third-place match against Alec Hall of Tecumseh 7-2.

Other locals earning a place in the CBC meet include Hall, Asher and Brandon Henn of Tecumseh, along with Greenon’s Levi Morrison all finishing fourth. Placing fifth were Gavin Sineff from Tecumseh, Ryan Breakall and Shawn Ingle of Northwestern and Javen Moore of Greenon. Finally, finishing sixth overall were Tecumseh’s Hunter Elam and Jonathon Siroin, Northwestern’s William Bailey and Jacob Bills, and Greenon’s Alyssa Turner, Kole Gravos and Joshua Johnson.

*The sectionals begin this weekend for all the area teams. Tecumseh will compete in the Division One Centerville Sectionals this weekend, while Northwestern competes in the Division Three Sidney Lehman Sectionals and Greenon will be at Blanchester.
