With the momentum going strong, the Bethel Bees head into the post- season following an impressive 81-46 rout of Newton on Friday night, to close out the regular season with a school record 19 regular season victories.

The Bees jumped out early thanks to the play of junior Caleb South, who scored the games’ first ten points and the Bees never looked back.

Ryan Rose added a three to give Bethel a 13-0 lead before Newton could break through with a three of their own at the four-minute mark. Tyler Terry added a score around the rim, and when the Bees hit consecutive threes to end the quarter, they were comfortably in front of the Indians 23-8. South scored 15 points in the opening quarter.

The dominance continued into the second period, as the Bees scored five points in the opening 90 seconds, including a three from Jessie Nickell and a free throw by Christian White.

After the Indians connected on a three midway through the second period, the Bees put the game out of reach with a 16-1 run to head into the half with a 44-14 lead. During the run, Kendal James put together a solid quarter, scoring eight points for the Bees while Daniel Hagen also connected on a three for the Bees.

With the win, the Bees now prepare to head into the sectional tournament with a 19-3 record and a #3 seed overall. Bethel drew a bye in the opening round of the Division Three Sectionals at Vandalia Butler High School, and play the winner of Arcanum/National Trail next Wednesday starting at 6 p.m.

*Tippecanoe and Tecumseh also closed out their regular season last weekend, both with tough losses headed into the tournament.

Tipp lost in overtime at Butler 60-58, as the Red Devils came back from a five-point halftime deficit to send the game to overtime before falling short. The Red Devils return to action on Saturday night, 7 p.m. in the Division Two Sectionals at Springfield as the number two seed, and will play Benjamin Logan in their tournament opener. Tipp finished the regular season 10-12 overall.

*Tecumseh also closed out the regular season on Friday with a 45-35 loss on the road at Bellefontaine, as they finished their regular season at 5-18 overall, and 5-8 in the CBC. In the loss, Clay Mastin scored 16 points to lead the Arrows, while Ross Warren added eight and Reid Hale poured in six.

The Arrows now prepare for their tournament opener this Friday night at 5 p.m. against the top-seed Springfield Wildcats, with the game being held at Trotwood Madison High School. It will be the first of three games that evening.

*Northwestern finally sealed the deal for their first outright conference championship in many years, as they defeated Indian Lake 68-55 to close out the CBC 10-3. They also finished out the regular season last night against Mechanicsburg.

Northwestern opens tournament play this Saturday night at Northmont, 6 p.m. against Northeastern. A win will send them into the second round against Miami East/Stivers next Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. back at Northmont.
