Taco lovers, rejoice, for the mecca of cheap Mexican-American delicacies is in the beginning stages of moving to Park Layne.  The Taco Bell corporation has been in contact with the Clark County Engineer’s Office concerning the old Hot Dogs Plus location at the corner of Styer and McAdams.

Dean Fenton of the Clark County Engineer’s Office told the Board of Bethel Township Trustees that Taco Bell had acquired the former Hot Dogs Plus site as well as an adjacent property, and wants to begin breaking ground in March.  Fenton told the trustees he believed March would be too soon for the restaurant to break ground, as many steps still remain in the process.

Fenton had asked the trustees to discuss their preference for the site’s secondary exit and whether they preferred it to be on Bellows or McAdams.  The Board decided to let Fenton proceed in the manner her felt would provide the most safety when leaving the restaurant, especially for those pulling back out onto 235.  They said that once the business is established, that portion of McAdams could be potentially shut down, and Trustee David Phares said he wanted to ensure that project would not come at a cost to the township and its taxpayers.  Trustee Nancy Brown said ODOT was set to cover such projects through the State Route 235 safety improvement upgrades, but Phares said that would not begin until 2017 at the earliest, and wanted to put a mechanism in place that would prevent the township paying for the restaurant’s possible road alterations.

“Maybe I’m being too harsh here, but if something goes wrong, we need to make sure that our taxpayers aren’t funding private enterprise,” Phares said.

The Board agreed, and will speak with Fenton about their concerns before final approval is made.

The Board said Fenton expects construction of the new Taco Bell will begin in late-summer.
