New Carlisle Public Library plans to sponsor several fall programs throughout September and October. Some of the programs are single session programs whereas some will be ongoing.

On September 15, 2015, the Library will feature a program that addresses what to do to this fall to get that garden ready for spring planting. In the session that runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., attendees will learn techniques that will have their garden ready to go when winter breaks.

On Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the library will offer a program that provides suggestions for homeowners on replacing all their ash trees ruined by the emerald ash borer. In addition, Bonnie Martens, who is leading the session, will provide information on which trees to plant to attract birds and butterflies. She will also make suggestions for trees to provide privacy. Regardless of what kind of tree, Martens will help find the right one. Martens is a naturalist from the Springfield area and will help chose the right trees and provide instruction on their care.

The library invites the community to celebrate National eBook day at the library with them on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. National eBook Day was established to celebrate modern storytelling. Libraries throughout the country are sponsoring events to commemorate the day. New Carlisle Public Library will participate by holding a read-a-thon. Interested participants are asked to bring their eBook devices and read in the library. The library will furnish coffee, tea, or water and some snacks. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to design their own cup for their beverage as well as a few uninterrupted hours of reading pleasure.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, Julia Cook will return for a second session on essential oils. This session, entitled Essential Oils 101 will provide basic instruction on the use of essential oils to enhance health, beauty and peace of mind. The session will run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Furthermore, the library is offering a two-session workshop on Wednesday, September 23, and Saturday, September 24, 2015. The first session is a resume help session for individuals whose resume needs created, updated, or polished in preparation for the job hunt. This session will run from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Participants should come prepared with information to include on their resume and a USB thumb drive on which to save the resume. The following Saturday, from12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., the library is hosting a job fair featuring several employers throughout the area. Participants will have the opportunity to talk to and interview with perspective employers in a single location. Perspective job seekers should dress appropriately for the type of job they are seeking.

The library has also organized ongoing sessions featuring local writers, titled 2015-2016 Local Author Series. On September 12, 2015, Roger Blakely, a former Tecumseh graduate was available to sign his most recent book. His most recent novel, Avenger: An Artemus Newton Thriller, features Newton who is called out of retirement to tract down a Russian mobster and other adversaries with plans to activate terrorist sleeper cells inside the U.S.A.

The next feature author in these series, Trudy Kirsher is scheduled to talk about her latest book Fanny Seward, a life, on Thursday, September 23, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The main character, Seward is the daughter of Secretary of State Seward wounded in the assassination of Lincoln. In the novel, Seward provides astute observations of the generals and politicians of the time.

The next speaker for this series is scheduled on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. This presentation will feature local author Shar Coleman who will discuss her inspirational book entitled In the Midst of Life Consume the Stuff That Matters.

Another ongoing series offered by the library is Eat Smart, Be Active, Learn How. This program offered by the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and conducted by Rachael Stridsberg of the Ohio State Extension Office is an eight-week program that teaches individuals how to make food choices to improve the quality of their meals. The workshops are ongoing and participates can join at any time. The workshops are scheduled on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

For those interested in the arts, the library is offering a mixed media painting class on Saturday October 17, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Robyn Terry, the instructor, will lead participants through the creative process, which uses painting and lyrics from various sources to create their unique version of Be Still. The class costs $20 fee, and participants must register by October 3, 2015. A sample of the painting will be available in the adult display case at the library.

In addition, a music program will be offered on Saturday October 24, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Rosalee Massie will discuss how music can benefit everyone. According to Massie, music lessons and therapy benefit those with ADHD, Autism/Asperger’s, Alzheimer’s, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, PTSD, depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, Down’s Syndrome, and more. Massie has a Master’s of Arts in Church Music with Piano Concentration from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and has taught music for over 20 years. She plays professionally and volunteers for churches, nursing homes, and various events.

Other on-going programs available at the library include a Quilting Club, which meets every other Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.; and a Writers’ Group, which meets every Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
