Lindsay Fries of New Carlisle was awarded 8th place in the nation at the National FFA AgriScience Fair competition in the Power, Structural, and Technical Systems Catergory, Division 2.

Fries, a 2016 graduate of Northwestern High School representing the Northwestern FFA Chapter competed in May at the Ohio FFA Convention and received 1st place for her project. Only the top fifteen state winners are given the opportunity to compete nationally and are selected through a judging over the summer.

In August, Fries was notified that she had qualified to compete at the 89th National FFA Convention and Expo, which took place October 19-22 in Indianapolis. The project was inspired by a grant she won through the Ohio FFA Foundation that provided her with equipment to create a hearing safety related Agriscience Fair project. She compared sound levels at rural and factory agricultural settings, ultimately proving that farmers have an increased risk for hearing damage.

Fries, currently a student at the University of Findlay is active in Collegiate FFA, Newman Club, Marching Oiler Brass Band and the SADD National Student Leadership Council. “I was overjoyed to receive this honor, and had the chance to compete at the national level,” she said.
