At the January 28, 2016 meeting of the Bethel Township Miami Zoning Commission, the commissioners heard a request from Thomas Burrowes, of 9885 Palmer to split off and rezone two acres from 147.73 acres located at that address. He also requested that the zoning be changed from A-2 General Agriculture to R-1AAA Single Family Residential for a residence.

Prior to the rezoning request, Burrowes requested a conditional use to allow a second residence on the property from the Board of Zoning Appeals, which was granted in July 2015.

Commissioner Lorna Furderer admonished Burrowes saying, “You really should have requested the lot split and rezoning before you began construction.”

Burrowes indicated, “It would take several months to complete the rezoning process and I wanted to build the residence quickly.”

Despite the objection, the board approved the request.

The Bethel Township Board of Trustees will make a final decision on the case at their next meeting on February 9, 2016.

In other business, the commissioners elected a chair and vice-chair for 2016. Lorna Furderer remains the chair, and Mary Caskey remains the vice chair.

The next meeting of the Bethel Township Zoning Commission is tentatively scheduled for February 35, 2016.
