The Miami County commissioners agreed to have the sheriff negotiate a contract for inmate health services and said they want to talk with Troy officials about proposed parking changes near the Courthouse.
The commission March 22 authorized the sheriff’s office to negotiate the contract with Team Health/Premier Physician Services of Dayton for the inmate healthcare services at both the downtown Troy jail and the Incarceration Facility. The negotiations follow the request for proposals that were opened earlier this month.
Sheriff Dave Duchak told commissioners the contract is for nursing staff. The jail employs a physician separately. He said the office has had a long relationship with Team Health, which serves 18 Ohio jails.
The commissioners last week also discussed information received from the city of Troy about proposed parking changes along Water Street on the north side of the county Courthouse.
The proposal includes changing 10 parking spaces from all day parking to two-hour parking.
The change would impact visitors to the Courthouse and Safety Building as well as county employees who sometimes use the longer-term parking, said Chris Johnson, county facilities manager.
He said city Engineer Jill Rhoades said the changes were designed to make the parking in the area more uniform for parking control by the city.
The commissioners said they wanted to meet with Rhoades and/or others from the city to talk more about the proposal.
The spaces are important to the county courts, which direct jurors to parking of more than two hours when they are called to court duty, said Leigh Williams, the commissioners’ clerk/administrator.
“Uniformity is nice but we have to take into account how it affects people, and I am not sure this does,” said Commission President John “Bud” O’Brien. He asked for the meeting with city representatives so they can answer questions and hear the commissioners’ concerns.
In other business last week, the commissioners accepted a quote from Meyer Restoration of Piqua for removing two basketball goal posts from an outdoor recreation area at the West Central Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility and installing new goal posts. The cost for the project is not to exceed $4,798 for work to include demolition, site work, concrete repairs and the installation of new concrete.
