(MIAMI CO.) At the May 24, 2016 meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees, the trustees approved the purchase of two properties that are adjacent to the township property for $12,500 each. Both of the properties located on US 40 are in disrepair. Once the purchase is complete. The township administration plans to tear down the buildings and cleanup the properties for future use by the township. In addition, this action will eliminate the blighting conditions that currently exist in the township. Trustee Jerry Hirt said, “This action will help cleanup Brandt. In addition, we got the properties at a good price.”

The trustees also approved a resolution that sets the contributions of the employees and elected officials to their Health Care Coverage Plan. The insurance will cost the Trustees and Employees $25 per month for single coverage or $50 per month for family coverage. The Fiscal Officer’s coverage for a single plan will cost $10 per month or $20 per month for family coverage.

Fiscal Officer Deborah Watson reported that the Fire Department made 23 runs between May 5, 2016 and May 20, 2016. They responded to one brush fire. The remaining calls were for emergency medical services including three vehicle accidents with injuries.

For Planning and Zoning, Administrator Assistant Marty Caskey reported that three zoning applications were received and issued. These included an additional building at 8740 SR 201, a new residence at 9550 Bellefontaine Rd and a detached garage at 6984 Church. In addition, Caskey received two rezoning requests. The first is to rezone 3.154 acres at 4485 Scarff from A-2 General Agriculture to R-1AAA Residential. The second request is to rezone 10 acres at 9885 Palmer from A-2 General Agriculture to A-1 Domestic Agriculture. A date has not been set to hear the rezoning requests.

In enforcement, Caskey responded to 12 high grass complaints. Eleven of the 12 complaints have been cleared.

Caskey also announced that the Bethel Township Zoning Commissioner would meet on June 23, 2016.

The next meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees is scheduled for June 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Township Meeting Room.
