The 2017 Great American Cleanup had 1,426 volunteers participate in the annual effort to pick up litter and beautify public places in Clark County. The volunteers gave 2,350 hours and picked up 645 bags of litter from 125 public places.

The Great American Cleanup, which runs locally from March 1 through May 31, is the nation’s largest organized annual litter pickup, beautification and community improvement program.

Keep Clark County Beautiful sponsors the local effort for the Great American Cleanup. Keep America Beautiful is the national sponsor. The cleanup recruits volunteers to pick up litter in any public place, such as a park, playground, school grounds, roadway, or waterway.

In the 2016 Great American Cleanup, 1,200 volunteers picked up 522 bags of litter from over 100 public places in Clark County. Participating groups included civic organizations, churches, 4-H groups, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, schools, businesses, and many concerned individuals.
