New Carlisle City Council members appointed Jim Leathley to replace council member Bill McIntire, who resigned after moving out of the city.

Leathley has only lived in the city for three years, but has lived in the New Carlisle area all of his life. He is a 1970 graduate of Tecumseh High School, and is the Commercial Business Vice President of Security National Bank

He has also been the voice of Tecumseh Basketball for 31 years and the voice of Tecumseh Football for 26 years.

Council also accepted the resignation of member Lowell McGlothin. He had served on council for 15 years, and had also served as Mayor.

McGlothin resigned his seat so that he could accept his position as a Clark County Commissioner.

In other business, Council member Ethan Reynolds questioned Finance Director Colleen Harris about the Ohio Treasurer’s Online Checkbook, which allows citizens to keep track of government spending. Several months ago, City Manager Randy Bridge had said that it would be October or November before the city would be able to post the its information online.

“It’s almost January, and we’re not on it, yet,” said Reynolds.

Harris said that she plans on posting information annually, and would probably be able to get that task done in February. “We have a lot of year-end books that we have to close out, and it will be at least February before we can do anything about the online checkbook,” she said.

City Public Works Director Howard Kitko said that the city had a few problems with the recent ice storm. “Our trucks had problems getting around, especially the hill by the grain elevator,” he said. “They had to salt it backward so they could run over the salt to get traction.”
Fire Chief Steve Trusty reported that the New Carlisle Fire Department, with the cooperation of other area fire departments, were able to send over 100 cases of water and Gatorade to firefighters battling the wildfires near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. “We take care of our own,” he said.

City resident Ron Cobb told council of complaints he had with the new Waste Management contract. “They come late and don’t take all of the trash,” he said. “One driver asked why I had two totes, and I told him that I was paying for them.”

Mayor Mike Lowrey said that he occasionally has problems with his trash pickup, “but I call them and they usually come back within an hour and get all of it.”

Lowrey suggested that Cobb first contact Waste Management if his trash is not picked up, and if he doesn’t get satisfaction, to contact the City Manager.

Cobb said that if he didn’t get satisfaction, he would “take it further.”

The next regular meeting of the New Carlisle City Council will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Smith Park Shelter House. The public is invited to attend.
