New Carlisle City Manager Randy Bridge informed City Council that he had planned on introducing an ordinance to allow for the sale of the Twin Creeks properties at Monday’s City Council meeting, but the ordinance needed some rewording. He said the buyer is still interested.

The city has been paying on the note for Twin Creeks since the developer defaulted and has since passed away.

Fire chief Steve Trusty announced the promotion of firefighter EMT Scott Mclin to the rank of fire training Captain effective April 18.

Trusty also said that the Fire Department still has several smoke detectors that were a gift to the city. Any resident who needs a smoke detector can call the Fire Department at 845-8401 and request one. The Fire Department will install it for you. There is no charge for this service.

Bridge also stated that he had met with a representative from Clark County Community Development about the Madison Street School. He said that the city can use block grant funds normally used for street repairs to tear down the building and haul away the rubble.

He said the best bid that the City has received is $150,000 for the whole job. Council member Rick Lowrey was surprised at that amount, saying that the former City Manager had quoted a price in excess of $200,000. Other council members agreed. But Bridge said that he had the correct figure.

Police Administrator Ralph Underwood reported that thefts in the city are on the upswing. He reminded residents that if they see something suspicious to report it. “We have four deputies, but they can’t be everywhere,” said Underwood. “You are our eyes and ears.”

Resident Nancy Lubanovich addressed council about the intersection of S. Main St., S. Church St. and Linden Ave. She asked who has the right-of-way when turning left from Main St. onto Linden Ave. Sgt. Underwood said that is a tricky situation, and to exercise caution. “One thing I can say is that if you stop past the stop sign, you have technically run the stop sign,” said Underwood. “You have to stop at the stop sign.”

Public Works Director Howard Kitko said that changing the flow of traffic at that intersection would be extremely costly for the city. “It would involve buying the apartment building at the corner on Linden Ave. and buying the Domino’s property,” he said. “That would not be within our means.”

Council passed an ordinance to begin work on the Edgebrook Ave. Overlay Project.
